Where
technology
and medicine collide

Welcome

Inspiral prides itself on providing a unique service to clients in the agricultural and veterinary industries that works alongside your current service providers.

Dominic Alexander, the founder, began his career as a farmer and farm worker in the UK's livestock, arable, and equine sectors. His hands-on, practical approach to problem-solving on the farm or yard led him to a career in veterinary medicine.

With over twenty years of experience as a clinical vet, Dominic has worked and studied in various parts of the world. This global perspective has shown him how different approaches can solve old problems. Introducing new technologies and, in some cases, revisiting old methods can significantly improve the outcome of specific veterinary procedures for the patient and all concerned.

Laser surgery has been practiced in human and companion animal medicine for many years now. Still, it is rarely used on farm animals, the sector where the most significant benefits can be seen.

Laser Surgery and Therapy

Due to fate or circumstances, Dominic became interested in areas of livestock medicine and surgery that were not being covered in much depth by the veterinary profession, in particular, farm animal ophthalmology. This interest grew alongside equine ophthalmology. He is a member of the International Equine Ophthalmology Consortium (IEOC) which meets annually to discuss and share information on the treatment of ocular disease in equines. This group proved inspirational in Dominic looking at new approaches to tackling ocular disease in farm animals.

Whilst attending an IEOC symposium Dominic was introduced to the use of lasers to treat ocular disease in horses. It was here that the potential for its use in farm animals was ignited. Over the past 8 years, Dominic has used lasers to treat a host of conditions in cattle, sheep, goats, horses and donkeys that would have been difficult, even impossible to treat via conventional methods. The website demonstrates the conditions that can potentially be treated.

Education and Training

Over the years Dominic has given talks and workshops to people of all ages and walks of life. He developed the Mastering Medicines course for farmers and smallholders whilst in general practice. He has worked to improve methods of teaching and particularly enjoys providing tuition in areas where he has had formal training, competence and experience, so that the subject matter is brought to life.

Dominic believes that it is important to provide the material in a variety of different ways and engage the individual/audience without oversimplifying/dumbing down the contents provided. Concise protocols are utilised with hacks/shortcuts to help prevent problems occurring in the first place.
